This course provides an introduction to all the essentials you need to know in order to start teaching the four skills. The course consists of four ninety-minute sessions.

  • · Session one covers techniques for teaching reading.
  • · Session two covers techniques for teaching writing.
  • · Session three covers techniques for teaching listening.
  • · Session four covers techniques for teaching speaking.

Aims and objectives

This course aims to provide a basic introduction to the teaching of the four skills.

On completion of the course, participants should have a basic awareness of issues relating to the teaching of each of the four skills, and the ability to implement a communicative approach to their teaching.

Entry requirements & Assessment

This course is open to all and assumes no prior knowledge of the subject. There is no assessment. Certificates of participation are awarded to all participants.

Saturday 31 March – Athens
Sunday 31 March – Corinth

This course provides an introduction to all the essentials you need to know in order to start teaching pronunciation. The course consists of four ninety-minute sessions.

  • · Session one covers all the basics relating to consonants, including voicing, the place and manner of articulation, and the phonemic symbols.
  • · Session two covers the vowels and diphthongs, and includes suggestions for games and activities for learners to work on these.
  • · Session three covers issues relating to connected speech, including stress, intonation, elision, assimilation and linking.
  • · Session four covers a wide variety of creative techniques for teaching pronunciation at different levels.

Aims and objectives

This course aims to provide a sound foundation in the basics of phonology, and an awareness of the issues involved in teaching pronunciation.

On completion of the course, participants should have a good basic awareness of the sounds of English, and the ability to use a variety of appropriate techniques for teaching pronunciation.

Entry requirements & Assessment

This course is open to all and assumes no prior knowledge of the subject. There is no assessment. Certificates of participation are awarded to all participants.

This course provides an introduction to all the essentials you need to know in order to start teaching grammar and vocabulary. The course consists of four ninety-minute sessions.

  • Session one covers techniques for teaching grammar in context, use of timelines for the teaching of tenses, and concept check questions to ensure understanding.
  • Session two covers techniques for teaching grammar through a text, using inductive and inductive methods, and the test-teach-test procedure.
  • Session three covers background issues relating to the teaching of vocabulary and what it means to know a word.
  • Session four covers a wide variety of creative techniques for teaching vocabulary at different levels.

This course provides an introduction to all the essentials you need to know in order to start teaching exam preparation classes. The course consists of four ninety-minute sessions.

  • Session one examines of the Council of Europe Common Framework of Reference, setting out what language users at each point on the scale are expected to be able to do. We then provide a brief overview of all the exams in English that are recognized in Greece.
  • Session two focuses on effective preparation for the Reading and Writing papers of the Cambridge First Certificate.
  • Session three compares the demands of the Use of English paper in the Cambridge FCE, CAE and CPE, and provides suggestions for creative approaches to teaching.
  • Session four looks at formats of the Listening and Speaking papers from different exam boards, and suggests tips for effective candidate preparation.

Aims and objectives

This course aims to provide a basic introduction to the teaching of exam preparation classes.

On completion of the course, participants should have a basic overall knowledge of the variety of English exams that are recognized in Greece, and a good familiarity with the demands of the main Cambridge exams. You will also have creative ideas for effective preparation of students.
